Event Description
Passion Cafe in Scottsdale, AZ Topic: Moving Toward "YES" Understanding the Family's Role in Addiction and Chronic Pain Recovery Presented by Dr. Mel Pohl and Dr. Louise Stanger About Passion Cafe: This lively interactive Passion Cafe will look at the ways we, as behavioral health professionals, interact with chronic pain patients and their families. We are surrounded by an avalanche of healers, including physicians, who are largely stumped on how to alleviate their patients' pain. The go-to solution often includes a cupboard full of medications that only worsen their patients’ health and quality of life. Families often think they need to "fix" the identified loved one and don't see their own part in the recovery process. As a behavioral health professional, how do we start to change the conversation, and help our clients rise to their best possible selves beyond the stigma of addiction and a life of suffering?   Learning Objectives: Identify the important factors of Chronic Pain Syndrome - physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Recognize the side effects and pitfalls of frequently prescribed medications for chronic pain. Understand the common co-occurring disorders associated with chronic pain and learn effective treatment modalities. Explore techniques to facilitate change, inviting healthier family dynamics and moving family members from enabling to leveraged influence. Registration is $35Don't forget to RSVP by April 12, 2019Includes morning beverages and lunch 4 CEU hours offered This event is limited to 70 attendees This event is pending approval from the National Association of Social Workers About Dr. Mel Pohl: Dr. Pohl is a board-certified family practitioner.  He is the Chief Medical Officer of Las Vegas Recovery Center (LVRC).
